An Eye for Blind, a project conceived by the IEEE Student Branch at the College of Engineering Chengannur with the Kerala Federation of the Blind and Assisi School for the Blind aims to assist those who are visually impaired by offering aid for day-to-day tasks and activities without the help of another person
This project focuses on currency detection, which assists in the identification and counting of currency, object recognition to help with navigating spaces, and reading both handwriting and printed documents.
In order to accomplish this, this AI device uses a combination of both hardware and software. The hardware includes a camera, headphones, and the machine that runs the software. The camera, in conjunction with AI technology, identifies currency, objects, and the written word and uses audio to relay the information to the user. Altogether, the device operates to assist visually impaired people in tasks that allow for more independence in daily life.
This project will be passed on to younger students as those who created the project graduate.
As part of the Access and Abilities Competition, EPICS in IEEE provided a grant of $2,960 to this project.
