Borjalenga, a rural community in Northeast India, faces significant challenges due to lack of health awareness and key nutrition deficiencies. Parents are deeply concerned about their children’s health and nutrition as they lack real-time access to doctors and reliable health information.

To combat this issue, a team of students from the Gamma Upsilon Chapter at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven WIE SB Affinity Group, in collaboration with the Citizens Foundation, developed a web app that offers real-time health insights and customized nutrition advice to improve the general health of the community.

The REACH AI chatbot has two main features: Health Awareness and Nutrition Suggester. The Health Awareness tool uses natural language processing (NLP) algorithms and large language models (LLMs) to process user inputs and give advice on whether to seek medical help or manage the condition at home. The Nutrition Suggester uses a deep learning model trained on local food habits to create personalized meal plans for users. The system considers users age, weight, BMI, and dietary needs to make safe and appropriate suggestions.

This innovative solution aims to break the cycle of poverty and inequality by providing the Borjalenga community with accessible, real-time health and nutrition guidance.

This project was made possible by $1,590.00 in funding from EPICS in IEEE.
