Farmers in rural and agricultural regions, specifically in Maharashtra, face significant challenges due to a lack of real-time, localized weather data, which hinders timely decision-making and results in reduced yields and economic losses.
IEEE Pune Section, in partnership with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Narayangaon, is addressing this gap by developing the SunFarm Monitor, a compact, solar-powered weather station that collects real-time data on temperature, humidity, soil moisture, wind speed, rainfall, and atmospheric pressure. The system uses an ESP32 microcontroller with LoRa, Wi-Fi, and GSM communication modules to transmit data to a cloud platform, where farmers and agronomists can monitor trends and receive automated alerts.
