In India, approximately 500,000 individuals face the dual challenges of visual and severe hearing impairments, leading to significant difficulties in safe navigation and effective communication. Globally, over 285 million people have visual impairments and more than 430 million experience disabling hearing loss.

The project team from SRM TRP Engineering College, is developing SoundScout, AI-powered smart glasses equipped with haptic feedback. These innovative glasses are designed to assist visually and hearing-impaired individuals.

The expected outcome is to significantly enhance the ability of visually and hearing-impaired individuals to navigate their surroundings safely and communicate more effectively, thereby improving their independence and quality of life.

This project was made possible by $1,510.00 in funding from EPICS in IEEE.
