PROJECT OVERVIEW & UPDATES
Robots are a great educational tool for a hands-on introduction to technology. By designing, constructing, programming, and testing mobile robots, young students learn the basic concepts of today’s technical systems. They also learn to handle sensors, motors, programs and a graphical software development environment. This helps them to gain knowledge in ICT, electrical engineering, mechanics, and robotics.
Students from Universidad del Sol, within the Mexico section of Mexico, will work with local non-profit organization Instituto de Ingenieros Eléctricos y Eléctrónicos de Morelos A.C to give high school students from Centro de Estudios Técnicos y Cientificos de Morelos, and Plantel Emiliano Zapata, real hands-on experiences with building robotics. These experiences will help the students to explore and develop their skills in science, technology, engineering, and math as well as language and literacy.
The students will attend workshops to build and program robots using LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotics System where they will practice mechanical design, construction, programming, and teamwork skills. Finally, they will attend Robofest, a robotics competition and a robot show. Through this collaboration, high school students will experience the process of conceptualizing and building robotics, and university students will gain hands-on experience in project management.
