Locust infestations pose a major threat to agriculture worldwide, causing severe crop damage and contributing to food insecurity. Traditional responses, including chemical pesticides, can harm the land, contaminate the food chain, and negatively affect ecosystems.

In partnership with the OP Bhalla Foundation, the student team from Manav Rachna International University is developing a microwave and RADAR-based system designed to provide a more sustainable approach to locust management.

The project combines automated locust detection with targeted microwave technology intended to disrupt swarms while reducing reliance on chemical treatments. Alongside technology development, the team is working with local communities to help field testing, farmer education, and practical implementation within existing agricultural conditions. By focusing on feasibility, environmental responsibility, and long-term community ownership, the project aims to protect crops, strengthen food security, and promote safer and better sustainable farming practices.

This project was made possible through $7,000 in funding from the Antennas and Propagation Society (APS), an EPICS in IEEE Partner.
