IP Telephony System Implementation

Project Team MembersLOCATION: Córdoba, Argentina

PROJECT LAUNCHED: 2015

PROJECT LEADS:

  • National University of Córdoba
  • Colegio Nacional de Monserrat

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Students and staff from the National University of Córdoba will team up with secondary students at Colegio Nacional de Monserrat to install a VoIP (Voice over IP) system between the two school locations. VoIP is a technology which allows transmission of telephone calls over regular IP networks, which act as a transmission for such things as voice messaging and faxes. With the installation of VoIP, phone calls can be made through a normal IP system via PC or ordinary telephone.

The project will implement the system between the center and campus of the National University of Córdoba, and the high school. Three servers will be installed to support the system. The final goal will be to have a system that can allow the three locations to make calls, both urban and international, at a low cost.

Students will learn to build a computer network, one which also contains an IP telephony system, with the objective of increasing interest in technical careers such as engineering. Over the course of six to eight months, the students will install and configure the system, which will eventually allow free communication between the two schools. Other features will be installed, such as voicemail, IVR, and call forwarding.

With the service installed, both schools can maintain a connection over the phone, and which can also be used by staff, teachers and researchers for future projects.
